There is still time to vote for Holland
As of 4:30 PM, 08/22/2017 Holland was 7th out of 20 in the running for the Best Michigan Travel Location in USA Today Online Magazine.
According to a review on USA Today on line, Holland is “A slice of the Netherlands in the heart of the U.S., Holland has everything from windmills and tulips, to sandy Lake Michigan beaches, and a thriving downtown.
In a recent Holland Sentinel newspaper article on Sunday, 08/20/2017, Austin Merz stated, “The city of Holland has been nominated in USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice travel award contest. The contest is looking for the Best Michigan Attractions and has named Holland as a candidate for the award.”
Sally Laukitis, executive director of the Holland Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, felt there were a number contributing factors mixed together that made Holland so appealing for the award. “I think it is the Dutch attractions, it is an award-winning downtown, it is the beaches, the heated streets and sidewalks so we have become a year-round destination and I think the Tulip Time Festival,” she said. ‘I also think it is because we are known as a very friendly community. We get so many comments from visitors saying how friendly everyone is in Holland and how clean it is.”
As the executive director of the Visitors Bureau, Laukitis has the opportunity to see where Visitors come from. While some may think most visitors travel from across West Michigan, the truth is that Holland has become a global destination.
Holland draws people from many locations to visit our unique city. Locations such as Kazakhstan, France, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. People from every state in the U.S.A. are also on the list of visitors.
“As a destination, we have things for all age groups, all price ranges and all interests,” Laukitis said. “We have hiking and biking. You can charter a powerboat, you can go charter fishing. Plus it is a very safe, welcoming town.”
Holland already has a long list of awards including one from MILIVE as second most beautiful small towns in America in 2014.
A few of the many awards Holland has received are: Holland Hospital has achieved 9 quality award distinctions in the last 12 months of 2017.
